A DEAD TREE SPOKE TO ME

Lamenting the destruction we humans carelessly bring upon nature, in return for all the good we receive from it until we suddenly hear a wail as if a dead tree speaks to us.

A DEAD TREE SPOKE TO ME

I saw a dead tree

Did it speak to me?

I got lost in it’s rings

Counting the age it was in,

Did I hear a lamenting whisper?

Did it really speak to me?

From the living to a dead friend

I asked in pure silence,

“Oh, how it must have hurt you

Did you scream when they cut you?

What would you say if I could hear your voice in my head?”

“I’m sorry”, I mumbled

From the living to the dead

I heard a voice in my head,

“But I kept you all alive”, it croaked

Oh, what it has said

From the death bed

I saw a dead tree

Did it really speak to me?

I touched its trunk with grief

Bid it goodbye with utter guilt.
